Biography
In How to Dress a Fish, her debut collection of poetry, Abigail Chabitnoy combines archival documents with the experiences of her great-grandfather to explore family history, as well as the larger traumas, history, and culture of the Aleut. The book was shortlisted for the 2020 Griffin Poetry Prize. Chabitnoy was a Colorado State University Crow-Tremblay Fellow. Her work questions and reframes the politics of recording history in textbooks while ignoring traditional storytelling. Chabitnoy makes a habit of collecting interesting news headlines and notes on dreams to form the beginnings of new poems.
